Windows 10 is out of support. Here's what to do now.

By Zuma Technology team2 min read

Support for Windows 10 ended on October 14, 2025. Computers running it still start up and work. But Microsoft no longer sends them security updates, and that matters more with every month that passes.

What out of support means

Attackers find new flaws in Windows all the time. Updates close those flaws. A Windows 10 PC no longer gets those fixes, so its risk keeps growing. Software makers also stop testing on old systems, so business apps may start to misbehave.

There is a paperwork side too. Cyber insurance applications and compliance questionnaires often ask whether you run unsupported operating systems. An honest yes can complicate a renewal or an audit.

Check which PCs can run Windows 11

Windows 11 has stricter hardware rules than Windows 10. The main ones:

  • TPM 2.0. This is a security chip that protects encryption keys and other secrets, so they are hard to pull off the machine.
  • Secure Boot capability. This checks that the PC starts up with trusted software.
  • A supported processor. Some older processors are not on Microsoft's list.

Microsoft's free PC Health Check app tells you whether a single PC qualifies. For a whole office, we collect the same details from every machine at once.

Upgrade or replace

A PC that passes the check can usually be upgraded in place. A PC that fails is a candidate for replacement. A machine that passes but is already slow may not be worth upgrading.

If you need more time, Microsoft sells Extended Security Updates to businesses. Think of it as a short-term bridge, not a plan. It buys time to budget for replacements. Ask us about current terms before you buy.

How we run the project

  1. Inventory. We list every computer and what runs on it.
  2. Compatibility check. We test each machine against the Windows 11 requirements and check your key apps.
  3. Plan. We sort machines into upgrade, replace or retire, then agree on a schedule and budget with you.
  4. Backup first. We confirm your data is backed up before we touch anything.
  5. Staged upgrades. We start with a small pilot group, then work through the rest in batches.
  6. Follow-up. We check each machine afterward and answer questions.

Not sure how many Windows 10 machines you have? Get in touch and we will help you build the list.
